QBJJL State Championship 2012 – Registration Now open

Posted by admin On July - 1 - 2012Comments Off on QBJJL State Championship 2012 – Registration Now open

It is that time of year again where the annual Queensland State Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 2012 Championship is upon us.The competition will be held on Saturday 1st September 2012 at the West Moreton Anglican College in its Multi-purpose Hall. The hall is a multimillion dollar, state of the art facility maintaining ample car park, air conditioning, inbuilt sound system, duel movie screens that will be projecting photographs and BJJ fights throughout the day, huge stage and spacious area for viewing.

The location was specifically chosen not only for the great facilities but also as it is between Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast and also close to Ipswich. This will allow more competitors from regional areas to participate.

This year we are hoping the competition will be bigger and better.

There will be new divisions for Juniors (6 – 15 years old) and also Master divisions (40 years and over).

All open division winner receive either free entry to the World Professional Jiu Jitsu Cup (WPJJC) Sydney Trials 2013 (subject to eligibility) or a Komodo Ultimate Fightwear Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi sponsored by Komodo Ultimate Fightwear and bjjfightwear.com.au.

(The World Professional Jiu Jitsu Cup is the most prestigious BJJ tournament in the world, attracting the best athletes from over 100 countries. This competition is unique with qualifying trials held in major cities around the world. In Australia these trials are held in Sydney. There are major prizes awarded to the winners of the WPJJC with a prize pool of around $250,000. All qualifiers from Sydney have their flights and accommodation paid to attend the Abu Dhabi tournament.)

Last year Tony Torrisi of Garra BJJ, Brisbane won the light open blue belt division in Sydney and had the privilege of competing at world class level in the World final in Abu Dhabi representing Australia. He eventually won bronze in his weight division and put Queensland on the world map!

This year we are hoping to discover more talent and we encourage you to participate in the competition.

Other major prizes include BJJ Gi from Komodo Ultimate Fightwear for all division winners.

For full details of registration and participation please go to http://www.qbjjl.org.au/registration

Note: To receive Early Bird Discount please register before 1st August 2012

One of the great things about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is that it is a dynamic martial art that continues to evolve.   Similarly the Queensland Brazilian Jiu Jitsu League is evolving.

As the number of BJJ participants has increased in Queensland, it is important to evolve the format of competition in line with what is happening in the world of Jiu Jitsu.  With this in mind we are introducing a new competition format based on the World Professional Jiu Jitsu Cup (WPJJC) which is held annually in Abu Dhabi.

Whilst there are many local tournaments in Queensland we believe it is important that we provide Queensland Brazilian Jiu Jitsu participants with the best opportunity to improve their performance and participate in such a prestigious competition.  Therefore the new  QBJJL tournament will follow the rules and format of the WPJJC.

We have developed the new tournament format under the guidance of Alex Prates and Bernardo Trekko who are the organisers of the WPJJC Qualifying tournament in Sydney.

With their help, the QBJJL tournament will transform into  a world class competition. Read the rest of this entry »
